November 16,2022 C-1981-019/Colowyo Coal Mine ZTT
On October 2,2022,an intense storm event dropped approximately 0.86 inches in 3 hrs, 0.6 inches of that in an
hour. This storm event impacted the Final East Pit Ditch and South Collection Ditch which allowed disturbed
runoff to leave the site. For more information regarding this event, please refer to the Division's inspection report
dated October 4,2022.The entire length of the Final East Pit Ditch was inspected. The associated stock tank EP1
has been cleaned of sediment. The sediment has been stacked within the embankment of the stock tank to allow
for drying before being trucked off once ground conditions allow. The ditch itself has not yet received
maintenance due to ground conditions. Recent weather and snow has prevented Colowyo from getting equipment
to the area to reconstruct the ditch. Once weather and ground conditions allow,Colowyo will mobilize equipment
to the area for maintenance. While the ditch is in need of repair, all disturbed runoff is still directed properly to
South Collection Ditch and Prospect Pond. The South Collection Ditch has been repaired. The ditch has been
removed of all sediment and rocks that had deposited within the channel during the October storm event.
Additional freeboard has been added to the ditch to ensure future runoff stays within the channel. The North Trib.
East Pit Ditch was also inspected. This ditch was unimpacted by the October storm event and remains stable.
All Collom Ditches were inspected. This includes D1,D2,D3,and D4(formally D6). Each ditch was inspected.
Ditches D1,D2 and D3 are all armored with rip rap while D4 is approved as a bare channel. No erosion or issues
were observed.
. t 'o Pf
.s - •
r„ g.
.4
South Collection Ditch maintenance. EP1.
Ponds
Due to ground conditions and limited accessibility, some ponds were not inspected. This included Section 16,
Section 28,West Taylor,East Taylor and West Pit Pond.
Ponds associated with the East Pit are Streeter Pond and Prospect Pond. The Streeter Pond receives runoff
associated with the Streeter Ditch. The pond held water and was discharging at the time of the inspection. The
embankment was stable and well vegetated. The Prospect Pond receives runoff from the Final East Pit Ditch,
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 4 of 8
