The mine is an active underground mine.
GCC was actively extracting and processing coal at the time of the inspection.
The inspector met up with Jordan McCourt. Jordan had Wade Wymore accompany the inspector in the field.
Jordan was able to provide the requested updates to officer and directors information requested by the Division
during the RN8 review process.
AIR RESOURCE PROTECTION—Rule 4.17:
The wind was relatively calm much of the inspection. GCC was using a water truck to apply water to the
King II facilities area and keep ambient dust down. The raw coal and clean coal stockpiles were not blowing dust
at the time of the inspection. Haul trucks loading coal were covering their loads prior to leaving the mine site.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS—Rule 5.02.4(1):
Mine records were checked at the close of the inspection. The operator has maintained the records in good
condition. GCC needs to update the Insurance liability document in the on-site records with the current policy and
submit the updated insurance document to the Division as well.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4;Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Drainage —Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The mine had received a fair amount of precipitation in the weeks preceding the inspection. As such all
three ponds on site were holding water. There was no evidence that any of the ponds had discharged. Water
elevations in the three ponds were maintained well below the discharge elevations.
Additional sediment flowed into the West Pond at King I,filling a portion of the area that had been cleaned of
sediment earlier in the year. GCC has left the cut in the southern portion of the embankment in order to provide
access for continued sediment removal as conditions allow. No problems were noted at the East Pond at King I
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 9
