September 12,2022 C-1981-041/Roadside Portals CCW
The Division inspected the area known as Tract 71. In 2014 the landowner dumped a large quantity of water into
an unsealed airshaft(please see the Division's July 1, 9 and 15, 2014 inspection reports for more details). This air
shaft was repaired under the permitting action,Technical Revision No. 69(TR-69). The work approved under
TR-69 was completed in the fall of 2019 (please see the Division's October 2019 inspection report for more
details). The disturbance associated with TR-69 remains the last bonded acreage for the Roadside Portals Mine.
The TR-69 Repair Area,as it is referenced by the Division,is approximately 0.4 acres in size. During May of
2022 the landowner applied water in a trench that runs along the eastern and northern portions of Tract 71. The
landowner also created disturbances with expanding this trench that resulted in impacts to the TR-69 Repair Area.
During this inspection there was no water being applied to the landowner's trench on Tract 71 (Photo 8 and 9).
There was no evidence that water had recently flowed in the trench.
Rapid Creek is located to the south and southeast of the Roadside Portals Mine permit area. The Creek was
flowing at a reduced capacity typical with the seasonal average for this time of year(Photo 10)
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
The TR-69 Repair Area was stable with vegetative cover(Photo 11). There were no indications of
erosional features. There were no new impacts to the TR-69 Repair area from the landowner's activities. The
straw waddles were intact and remained in the approved locations. The disturbed boundary markers were
observed to be in place and could be visible from on marker to the next. The mine identification sign was posted
on one of the disturbed area markers. Tract 71 has had the western half of the land bladed of vegetation. The
landowner's equipment was parked on the east side of the Carey Pit(southwest corner of Tract 71). There was no
water from the landowner's pipeline going into the Carey Pit. The pit was dry during the inspection(Photo 12).
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None
OTHER(SPECIFY): None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 4 of 12
