August 4, 2022 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine JHB
been cleaned of sediment at the time the inspection ended. Ditches alongside the haul road were already cleaned
of sediment. The clean water(upland)ditch on the west side of the King II haul road had been overwhelmed by
the runoff from the undisturbed areas. The operator had already cleared culverts of sediment and debris and
repaired any damage that had occurred. The SAE on the east side of the haul road had some damage to the silt
fencing that will require repair. It appeared all sediment remained contained within this alternate sediment control
structure.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover;Timing:
Overall GCC Energy has been able to stay on top of managing noxious weeds on the permit area. Several
small collections of noxious weed species were encountered that need to be included in the weed management
efforts.
On the west side of the entrance road to King I there is a patch of Canada thistle. (Photo 1). Proximity to the
farmer's pasture makes control of this B listed noxious weed a priority.
Near the tan porta-potty at the entrance to King I,we encountered a small patch of Diffuse knapweed(photo 2).
additional knapweed were also noted on the berm southeast of the southern extent of the west pond. (photo 3)
Leafy spurge was also noted north of the East pond.
Noxious species were not encountered at the Old Bard/Half Mile Hill area.
The operator is staying ahead of Noxious weed species at the King II facilities. An occasional Musk thistle plant
was encountered on the Pond 1 embankment. These were individual plants and not an infestation.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
The contractor for the Low Cover Crossing construction have removed all trailers, and support facilities,
fuel storage, and secondary containment from the King I facilities area. Red staining from the area where the fuel
storage location was located was noted draining to the East Pond. It was unclear what this staining was. It did
not appear to be oily in nature, and looked to be emanating from the toe of the lower RDA. This reddish drainage
is contained within the sediment control area and shows no evidence of leaving the site.
GCC had disposed of slash pile of dead junipers off site with the disposal company that had been piled at the north
end of Pond 1 at King II facilities.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER(SPECIFY)NA
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 5 of 12
