Coal
was being hauled from L and N Pits. Overburden/spoil was being hauled and deposited in N Pit. Roads
were being watered. No offsite air or water quality impacts were observed at the time of inspection.

In N Pit, highwall mining is taking place uphill into south highwall. The miner is only able to average
800 feet of penetration as opposed to the 1200 feet anticipated. The N Pit floor needs to be raised to
access the Q seam. Overburden was being placed at west end of pit to accomplish this.

At I pit east coal has mostly been excavated and hauled. A small coal pile remains to be hauled. Once all
material is removed the pit will be ready for highwall mining. A contractor has been engaged to operate a
highwall miner. I pit middle will also be highwall mined. The miner is scheduled to arrive on site in
August, one month late.

Topsoil stripping and recovery at the original (PR10), portion of J Pit has been completed. Stripping was
occurring at the west end of J Pit. Future stripping is planned further west toward the red silos.

SIGNS and MARKERS – Rule 4.02
o Topsoil stockpiles observed were clearly marked with identifying signs.
