South Hinsdale Response to Objections
12 July 2022
(3) why not on SH-160 or SH-84
Response: Section 5.1, Section 5.9, and Section 5.10
(4) construction trucks on Saturn Drive
Response: Section 5.1, Section 5.3, and Section 5.10
(5) truck breakdown or accident shutting Piedra Road and Pagosa Boulevard down
Response: Section 5.2
Such things resulting in closing important collectors — especially those with few (or no)
potential detour routes) — is a sad fact of life. We all wish we could avoid them. But such
an accident and closure are far more likely to occur on SH-160 or even SH-84, than on
Piedra Road because of higher traffic volumes and more unfamiliar drivers. Refer to Item
#3 for details on traffic studies and related information on traffic volumes and the impact
of gravel hauling.
(6) Why not an undeveloped area where "they" can put in their own roads.
Response: Section 5.1, Section 5.3, and Section 5.9
Regardless of whatever private road may be possible for a private entity to put into an
',undeveloped area" it MUST at some point connect to public roadways to allow the
materials to be delivered to those who need them. In some cases, there ARE potential
alternate routes that can be used, but in our lovely mountains we have fewer options, as
an everyday fact of travel between north and south Hinsdale County as there no direct
route. All options have significant pluses and minuses. Customer drivers and employee
drivers hauling from South Hinsdale Pit will be instructed and constantly urged to both
select the safest route and to drive safely, but ultimately the drivers must be accountable
and held responsible for their own actions, or inactions.
2.16 Jacqui Slavin
received May 29, 2022—
List of twenty-four (24) items of which many are repetitive or closely related
(1) 0.4 miles from Ice Cave Ridge and Piedra River trails.
Response: Section 5.1 and Section 5.9
(2) Piedra river and water fall very near
Response: Section 5.1 and Section 5.2
(3) Runoff
Response: Section 5.2
(4) Dust and fumes
Response: Section 5.8
(5) Debris
Response: See Exhibit C item 16 (page 18 of application) We are unaware of anything
which might be classified as "debris" which would be generated by mining or hauling of
construction materials. Although hazardous waste
is not expected to be generated by activities on-site, its proper handling and disposal is
5182-22-003 1r ASTELINE, INC. Page 26 of 107
