2. <br />I. Curing <br />1. <br />2. <br />Finishes of Concrete Other Than Floors and Slabs • <br />a. General. Slight honey comb and minor defects shall be <br />patched with cement mortar of one part cement to two parts <br />fine aggregate within 24 hours after removal of the forms. <br />Exposed patchwork shall be made to color-match adjacent <br />surfaces as nearly as is practicable by using part white cement <br />or by other approved means. Exposed surfaces shall be given <br />one of the following finishes, as indicated on the drawings or <br />specified. <br />b. Rough Finish. Concrete for which no other finish is indicated <br />or specified shall have fins and rough edges removed. <br />c. Smooth Finish. Smooth finish shall be given to all exposed <br />surfaces and shall be obtained by use of hardboard or plywood <br />forms, form linings, or forms especially designed for reuse. <br />Forms and form linings shall be used in es large sheets as• <br />practicable, with smooth, even edges, and forms and form <br />linings shall be installed with dose joints. Joint marks shall be <br />smoothed off and blemishes removed leaving finished surfaces <br />smooth and unmarred, subject to approval. <br />Protection~Against Moisture Loss • <br />a. Immediately after finishing, concrete surfaces not covered by <br />forms shall be protected from the loss of surface moisture for <br />a period of not less than 7 days by using quilts, curing <br />compound, polyethylene film, or burlap, lapped 4" at edges and <br />ends. <br />b. Surfaces from which forms are removed before the curing <br />period has elapsed, shall be protected as specified for surfaces <br />not covered by forms. <br />c. The method of curing shall be subject to approval by the <br />Engineer prior to placing concrete. <br />Water Curing <br />a. Water curing shall be effected by keeping the forms <br />continuously wet with clean water to reduce cracks and to <br />prevent the joints in forms from opening, and by keeping the <br />other protective materials thoroughly wet, prevent hair cracks <br />from occurring in surfaces of the concrete. <br />b. During damp periods, this water curing routine shall be <br />maintained, except the amount of water used shall be <br />sufficient to keep only the forms or covering moist. • <br />c. Water curing shall be continuous for 7 days minimum. <br />03300-12 <br />
