• 1. Concrete Floor Finishes. Concrete floors shall be finished as herein-
after described. In preparation for finishing, floor slabs shell be
struck off true to the required level at or below the elevation or
grade of the finished floors, as shown on the drawings. Floors shall be
leveled with a tolerance of 1/8 inch in 10 feet or as directed.
a. Monolithic Finish (Steel Trowel Finish). All interior floor slabs
not otherwise specified shall be finished by tamping the
concrete with special tools to force the coarse aggregate away
from the surface, then rereading and floating with
straightedges to bring the surface to the required finish level
shown on the drawings. Whffe the concrete is still green but
sufficiently hardened to bear a man's weight without deep
imprint, it shall be wood-floated to a true, even plane with no
coarse aggregate visible. Sufficient pressure shall be used on
the wood floats to bring moisture to the surface. Steel trowels
shall be used to complete the finish.
b. Rough Slab Finish. Rough finish floors, where required, shall
be finished by tamping the concrete with special tools to force
the aggregate away from the surface, then rereading with
straight edgers and floating to produce a reasonably true and
uniform surface.
- c. Wood-Float Finish. All steps, stoops, ramps, docks, and
• exterior slabs on grade shall be finished by tamping with
special tools to force aggregate away from the surface, then
~ rereading with straightedges to bring the surface to the
~` required lines as shown on the drawings. Wh>Ze the concrete is
- still green but hardened sufficiently to bear the cement
finisher's weight, the surface shall be wood-floated to a true
and uniform plane with no coarse aggregate visible.
d. Power Machine Finishing. in lieu of hand finishing, the
Contractor may use an approved power machine for finishing
concrete floors in accordance with the directions of the
machine manufacturer. The preparation and final finish of
concrete surfaces for finishing by machine shall in general be
as hereinbefore required for hand finishing.
e. Hardeners and Dustproofers. Where called for on the
drawings, hardeners and dustproofers shall be applied
according to the following standards:
(i) Hardening and dustproofing material shall be a colorless
aqueous solution of zinc or magnesium fluosilicate.
Each gallon of the solution shall contain not less than 2
pounds of the crystals.
(ii) A proprietary hardener approved by the Engineer may
• be used, provided the hardener is delivered ready for
use in the manufacturer's original containers. Appli-
cation of hardener shall be in strict accordance with the
manufacturer's recommendations.
03300-11
