3.07 Frost <br />' No pipe or appurtenant structure shall be installed upon a foundation into which <br />r. frost has penetrated, or at any time when the Inspector deems there is danger .if • <br />~ ice formation, or frost penetration at the bottom of the excavation. No pipe or <br />appurtenant structure shall be installed unless backfillirg can be completed before <br />the formation of ice end frost. <br />~~ <br />3.08 Excavation, Bedding and Backfill <br />r <br />I <br /> <br />See Part 2.05 of Section 02520 or Section 02200 of these Specifications for ell <br />requirements for earthwork. <br />3.09 Bell and Spigot Joints <br />Immediately before joining two lengths of pipe, the inside of the bell or coupling, <br />the outside of the spigot and the elastomeric gasket shall be thoroughly cleaned to <br />remove all foreign material. <br />Lubrication of the joint and rubber gasket shall be done in accordance with the pipe <br />manufacturer's specifications. <br />Care shall be taken that only the correct elastomeric gasket, compatible with the <br />annular groove of the bell, is used. Insertion of the elastomeric gasket in the <br />annular groove of the bell or coupling must be in accordance with the manu- <br />facturer's recommendations. Pipe that is not furnished with a deep mark shall be <br />marked before assembly to assure that the spigot end is inserted to the full depth <br />of the joint. _ • <br />The spigot and bell or coupling shall be aligned and pushed until the reference lute <br />on the spigot is flush with the end of the bell or coupling. Pushing shall be done in <br />a smooth, steady motion. <br />3.10 PVC Pipe <br />A. Pipe Storage <br />Pipe stored outside and exposed to sunlight for more than five (5) days shaill <br />be covered with en opaque material such as canvas. Clear plastic sheets <br />shall not be used to cover pipe. Air circulation shall be provided under the <br />covering. <br />B. Handling of Pipe in Cold Weather <br />PVC pipe has reduced flexibility and impact resistance as temperatures <br />approach and drop below freezing. Extra care should be used in handling <br />PVC pipe during cold weather. <br />L <br />~_ <br />r <br />L <br />3.11 Pressure Test <br />All pipe within reservoir embankments shall be air tested to insure that pipe acid <br />joints can sustain a pressure of 100 psi.
