3.09 Compaction Requirements
A. All embankment fill material (Type 1 and Type 2) shall be compacted to at.
~ least 95% of Standard Proctor Density (AASHTO T-99), ASTM D-698) at e~ •
_ moisture content 2% below to 2% above optimum moisture. Materiall
i adjacent to natural material shall be compacted to 100% of the Standard
Proctor Density.
B. All structural bedding material shall be compacted to 100% of Standard)
1 Proctor Density.
i C. All general backfill materiel shall be compacted to 90% of Standard Proctor
Density.
,_ 3.10 Tolerances
Grading of cut and fill areas of channels, embankments, foundations, etc., shall
conform to the following tolerances:
j A. A vertical tolerance of zero above and 0.1 feet below the specified grade
will be allowed on the pipe bottom; however, the invert must be graded to be
flowing at all locations and no standing water will be allowed.
B. Structural excavation shall be true to grade.
C. Roadways shall have a vertical tolerance of 0.1 feet above or below the
specified grade.
1 ~ D. Foundation excavation shall have a vertical tolerance of zero above and O.cl
L. feet below the specified elevation
E. Embankment fill areas shall have a vertical tolerance of zero below and 0.'<;
feet above the specified elevation for the post construction condition.
_ F. Horizontal tolerance for all earthwork shall be less than 0.5 feet from the
design line es shown on the Drawings.
G. Horizontal alignment for all pipes, structures and drains shall be the design
~ line.
~_
H. Regardless of the construction tolerances specified, the excavation anti
grading shall be performed in such a manner that the finished surfaces are ir:
uniform planes with no abrupt breaks in the surface and the adjacent ground
'- is free draining.
The construction tolerances specified herein for grading are solely for
-- purposes of field control
L.
I
L
r'
02200-11
