~... • <br />i <br />D. Proper allowances shall be made for form construction, waterproofing, <br />shoring and inspection. Where walls or footings are authorized to be <br />deposited directly against excavated surfaces, the surfaces shall be scarified <br />12 inches moistened to near optimum and recompacted to 100% Standard <br />Proctor. Bottoms of excavations for footings and grade beams shall be level <br />and clean. <br />E. Protect bottoms of all excavations from freestanding water and frost. Do <br />not place foundations, footings, grade beams or slabs on wet or frozen <br />ground. <br />F. Suitable excavated material required for backfill shall be separately <br />stockpiled in the designated areas or as directed by the Project Engineer. <br /> <br />G. Excess materiel from excavation, unsuitable for or not required for fi71 or <br />baddill, shall be wasted or stockpiled as directed by the Project Engineer on <br />the site. <br />3.02 Embankment Construction <br />A. Excavation for the Foundation <br />Except as otherwise provided in these Specifications, material excavated <br />will be measured and classified in excavation to the lines shown on the <br />Drawings or as provided in these Specifications. <br />IL 3~ <br />B. Dewatering <br />All dewatering operations necessary to permit the construction of the <br />structures, embankment, foundation, drain or spillway must be accomplished <br />by the Contractor and included in the cost of the items shown in the <br />Proposal and no special or extra compensation will be allowed for this work. <br />C. Embankment Construction <br />i <br />L~ <br />The embankment shall be constructed to the lines and grades shown on the <br />Drawings. No brush, roots, sod or other perishable or unsuitable material <br />shall be placed in the embankment. The suitabaity of each part of the <br />foundation for placing embankment materials thereon and of all materials <br />for use in embankment construction will be determined by the Engineer. No <br />embankment materiel shall be placed in the embankment when either the <br />material or the foundation or embankment on which it is to be placed is <br />frozen. The Contractor shall maintain the embankment in an approved <br />manner until the completion and acceptance of all other work under the <br />Contract. The embankment for each portion shall be maintained approxi- <br />mately level throughout the entire length of each layer from abutment to <br />abutment. All openings through the spillway embankment required for <br />construction purposes shall be subject to approval, and such openings, if <br />approved, shall be constructed so that the slope of the bonding surface <br />between embankment in place and embankment to be placed is not steeper <br />than 4 to 1.
