Design Considerations: Liberal factors of safety shall be used in the:
design of all of the equipment. Working stresses shall not exceed they
lower value: one-third of the yield strength, or one-fifth of they •
ultimate strength of the material. The slide gates and appurtenances
shall be designed for installation in the structure shown on the Plans.
Workmanship
All work shall be performed in accordance with the best modern practice for
the manufacture of high-grade machinery. All parts shall have accurately
machined mounting and bearing surfaces so they can be assembled without:
fitting, chipping or remachining. All parts shall conform accurately to the:
design dimensions and shall be free of all defects in workmanship or materiel.
that will impair their service. All attaching bolt holes shall be accurately
drilled to the layout indicated by the manufacturer. The slide gates shall bey
completely shop-assembled to insure the proper fit and adjustment of ally
parts.
Slide Gate Frames
Type -Flat back
Material -Cast iron, ASTM A-126, Class B
Opening - As indicated
Construction -One piece
Contact Surfaces -Machined
Grooves -Machined dovetailed, on front face
Seat, Facings -Bronze, machined, driven into grooves
Mounting - As indicated in slide gate schedule
Slides For Slide Gates
Material -Cast iron, ASTM A-126, Class B
Construction -One piece
Type -Round with domed construction
Grooves -Machined dovetailed, on seating face
Seat Facings -Bronze, machined, driven into grooves
Tongues -Full length of disc, each side, machined to proper clearance
with guide groove
Wedge Pads -Cast integrally, machined to receive adjustable bronze
wedges
Guides for Slide Gates
Material -Cast iron, ASTM A-126, Class B
' Design -Total thrust due to water pressure and wedging action
~- Construction -One piece
Contact Surfaces -Machined
Groove -Machined entire guide length to proper clearance with
L disc tongue
Length - As required to retain and support at least 1/2 the slide
in the full open position
Wedge Seats -Bronze, securely attached to machined pads on
guides
I
~.

lJ
15105-3
II
L
