3. Topsoil Replacement Plan
Topsoil will be replaced to an average depth of 9 inches in all areas.
Table 2— Post Mining Land Uses
Post Mining Land Use Acreages
2 8'
Undisturbed 2.2
Topsoil will be ripped prior to seeding to prevent compaction of the seed bed. The vast majority
of the topsoil will be directly placed on ready to reclaim slopes as the mining operation progresses
through the site. Topsoil from initial stripping will be used in reclaiming portions of the site as
mining nears completion. Seeding of topsoil will take place within 30 days of its placement.
4. Revegetation Plan
Seed will be placed on the rangeland areas of the site as shown on the Map F-1. All of the site
that is being revegetated will have the same seed mix.
Revegetation at the Skelton Pit will consist of seeding to develop rangeland vegetation to
prevent soil erosion. As much as is practical, woody vegetation removed prior and during topsoil
stripping will be directly placed in the concurrent reclamation areas to encourage restoration of
those species. Slopes will be ripped and roughed prior to seeding to prevent seedbed
compaction. Seeding will be conducted with a drill seeder, broadcast seeder, or via
hydroseeding. Broadcast seeding will be at twice the seeding rate as drill seeding. Mulch will be
placed at roughly 2000 pounds per acre. Seeding will be conducted principally in the fall prior to
snowfall.
Table 3 shows the proposed seed mix for revegetated areas. The same seed mix will be used
on topsoil and overburden stockpiles that are in place more than 90 days. These seeding rates
are for drill seeding.
Table 3— Rangeland Seed Mix
Species Pounds of pure live seed per acre (drilled)
.@QGalle}}ta floret 4
Indian Rice grass 3
Rabbitbrush 0.5
0.5
Total 15.5
Skelton Pit
January 2022 E-2 Lewicki&Associates
