February 22,2022 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine JHB
Johns, and 1 north of the locked gate. Once the snow melts off,GCC needs to follow up on these locations and
assure they drain and are not ponding. SAE sediment traps alongside the Haul road North of the gate were
functioning adequately.
The Old Barn area was snow covered and inactive at the time of the inspection. The road had not been plowed the
day of the inspection and no vehicles were utilizing the access road. Sediment control silt fence and sediment
traps were maintained and appeared to be functioning. No runoff outside of the sediment control system was
observed.
The King II sediment control system appeared well maintained. The clean water ditch alongside the haul road was
snow-covered but showed no indication of blockage or breaching. The Cattle guard SAE was working well, and
not iced over or full of sediment. The gravel/ballast storage SAE had one section of silt fencing that needs re-
staking, but otherwise appeared to be functioning appropriately. King II sediment pond was well vegetated and
snow covered. No standing water was observed at the discharge structure of this pond. There was no indication
that there had been any recent discharge from this pond. Culverts C16,C15, and C14 were all free of debris at
inlets and outlets. Care had been taken during snow removal of the facilities not to push gravel into the sediment
control system.
PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES—Rule 4.10 and 4.11
Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization;Placement:
GCC had not been hauling refuse to the RDA recently.
ROADS—Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3),Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4), Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5)and
(6)/4.03.2(5)and(6),Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Roads throughout the mine area were being maintained in accordance with the weather, or in the case of
King I, left alone and not used during the snowy and muddy weather.
The County Road CR120 was initially snow and ice packed.
