ITEM 9 REVEGETATION AND FINAL GRADING
This Item includes grading of all disturbed areas to blend with the surrounding landscape. All
excavated or disturbed areas will be graded so that, when completed, all cut slopes match the
contour of immediately adjacent areas.
All areas disturbed during reclamation work and any other areas specified in these Special
Conditions will be revegetated according to the Revegetation Specifications in the General Bid
Specifications. Seed will be supplied by the OWNER.
Surface scarification must occur where bedrock is not exposed across the 1 acre project
area. Scarification will be accomplished by tracked machine, and will create benches on the
barren slopes that are not solid bedrock. The benches will be a minimum twelve inches (12")
wide, cut perpendicular to the fall of the slope on contour, by approximately six inches (6") deep
(cut into the slope)creating a backwall of six to eight inches (6-8)inches in height. The benches
will be created in an offset pattern from top to bottom of the slope. Shelves will be no further
than two feet(2') apart, from edge to edge perpendicular to the fall of the slope (on contour), and
no further than four feet(4') apart as measured parallel to the fall of the slope. Crews must start
at the top of the slope crest, and work down slope. This bid item will be completed using
primarily tracked equipment.
Commercial fertilizer is required for this project. Triton fertilizer or approved equivalent, will
be provided, delivered, and applied to the site at a rate of 1,000 lbs per acre. A total of 1,000 lbs
will be required to complete the revegetation, as described in this task.
Wood Straw mulch will be applied to all disturbed areas at the rate of four(4)tons per
acre. Mulch will be provided by CONTRACTOR. Mulch must be evenly distributed over the
soil surface, and can be applied to the site by hand or mulch blower. Wood Straw Strands must
meet the following specifications:
• Free of weed seed
• Ratio of long strand to short strand, 50:50 by area
• Long strand length: 6.3 inches
• Short strand length: 2.5 inches
• Width: 3/16 inch
• Thickness: 1/10 to 1/8 inch
The estimated area to be revegetated is 1 acre.
Measurement and Payment
Payment for this Item will be made at the unit price established in Item 10 of the Bid
Schedule. Measurement for payment will be made per acre of revegetation and mulch.
Revegetation areas will be measured to the nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit price bid
on the Bid Schedule. Payment for this Item will be upon completion of installation and
upon approval of the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full
compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and
incidental to the completion of Bid Item 10.
