November 22,2021 C-1981-012/New Elk Mine JLE <br /> Diversions 4.05.4;Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; <br /> Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br /> Pond 007a was holding water but not discharging. The pond embankment was stable and vegetated. The primary <br /> and emergency spillway was clear and functional. <br /> Pond 006a was holding water. The embankment was stable and vegetated. <br /> Culvert No. C64 was cleaned out after being cited as a maintenance issue during the last inspection. <br /> The trees have been removed from the clean water ditch(D-26)after being cited as a maintenance issue during the <br /> last inspection. <br /> NECC has conducted repair work on the road-side ditch leading up to the water tanks(D18). Portions of the ditch <br /> have been reformed and graded,also several rock check dams have been placed in the ditch. <br /> NECC has also re-established ditch D-26 on the out slope of the road leading to the water tanks. <br /> Containment Area 91 was holding water,no problems were noted. <br /> Containment Area 92 was dry,no problems were noted. <br /> Pond 004a was dry. The pond embankment was stable and vegetated.The primary and emergency spillways were <br /> clear and functional. NECC has removed brush around the primary spillway pipe. However,willows have <br /> established throughout the pond area,diminishing the pond's capacity. According to Mr.Massarotti,the <br /> necessary infrastructure to fill the pond with water is not in place at this time. NECC may begin to pump water <br /> to this pond in the future once the infrastructure is in place.Prior to this activity,NECC will need to <br /> remove the willows from the pond area to maintain its designed capacity. <br /> A large rock has fallen into the clean water diversion ditch(D55) above the RDA and will need to be <br /> removed. <br /> Pond 008 was holding water but not discharging. The primary and emergency spillways were clear and <br /> functional. The embankment was stable and vegetated. <br /> Containment Area 93 was dry and no problems were noted. <br /> Containment Area#4 was dry and no problems were noted. <br /> Containment Area#5 was holding water but not discharging.
