Reclamation Costs Exhibit L
Reclamation will be completed in two phases and the worst-case reclamation scenario is calculated
for both scenarios. Phase 1 of reclamation involves reclaiming the currently disturbed area of
approximately 62 acres. The western portion of this area has already been backfilled, graded, and
topsoiled. This area is approximately 11 acres and can be seen in Map F-1. Phase 2 of reclamation
will be of the new disturbance areas in the northern portion of the site, approximately 25 acres.
Phase 2 bonding will be necessary once mining enters this northern disturbance area. United will
not begin mining in this area for some time and will secure the Phase 2 bond prior to any
disturbance in the Phase 2 area.
During all phases of mining, no more than 500 feet of active highwall will exist without being
backfilled and graded. This sets the maximum amount of highwall to be reclaimed at any point to be
500 feet for the worst-case reclamation scenario. The highwall height ranges from 26 to 34 feet,
averaging 30 ft. Detail on the backfilled slopes is provided in Map C-3.
The worst-case reclamation case during Phase 1 would require the backfilling and grading of 500
feet of active highwall. The berm along this boundary would be flattened and pushed down the
slope to aid in regrading. The area that is currently in use as a processing and mining area would
then be topsoiled and disced. The partially reclaimed area in the west of this area has already been
backfilled, graded, and topsoiled as of 2021. The last step in reclaiming phase 1 will be the seeding
and mulching of the entire Phase 1 area for revegetation.
The worst-case reclamation case during Phase 2 would require the backfilling and grading of 500
feet of active highwall (this would already be bonded for). Then the entire Phase 2 area would be
topsoiled, disced, seeded, and mulched for revegetation.
Figure L-1 shows which areas have been partially reclaimed and what needs to be done to
completely reclaim the Spring Creek Pit.
Spring Creek Pit
September 2021 L-1 Lewicki&Associates
