-M
a WAY 5LVM MINES
4. Does OSMI intend to use the vehicle wash pad year round?Given the tough winter conditions an open
air wash bay seems impractical,as does the oil and water separators ability to function in sub freezing
temperatures. Please clarify.
Response: OSMI does intend to use the vehicle wash pad year-round. The oil water separator will be kept
inside of the underground shop on site, which is heated by propane and will not reach sub freezing
temperatures. The water from the sump will be pumped from surface where the wash pad is located into
the underground shop where the separator will be protected from the elements.
5. During the Division's inspection on August 31,2021, it was stated that the wash pad would connect to
the rails within the train shed so that trains and their cars could be washed prior conducting maintenance.
Please include the linear feet of the rail line to be extended to the wash bay.
Response: There will be approximately 90 feet of additional rail line that will be extended into the pad to
wash underground equipment. Roughly 40 feet of that will be on the pad and the additional 50 feet will be
placed to reach the pad.
6. What is the specific model/type of Water Oil Separator proposed to be utilized on site? The information
provided is generic and includes lots of information for the various types of separators manufactured by
AFL. Also please provide more detailed information regarding the applicability of the unit and it's
efficiency to remove specific contaminants.
Response: The mine is purchasing oil water separator model VTC-5-SS. The separator is designed to
handle 5 gpm and will remove free oil content down to <10ppm and can remove oil droplets >20
microns. An engineered drawing of the separator that the mine will purchase is attached to this response
along with a specification sheet and installation, operation& maintenance manual.
7. Effluent quality seems to be largely based on how efficiently the separator is functioning. Please
provide maintenance procedures to ensure the unit will maintain it's efficiency. Also please
describe if and how the water produced by the separator will be sampled prior to discharge, if it
is to be sampled please provide a list of analytes the samples will be analyzed for.
Response: The Operation and Maintenance instructions for VTC models are in section 1-O-M.• 2.10-1 of
the attached "Installation, Operation, &Maintenance Manual." The mine does not plan to sample water
as it leaves the oil water separator. The water will enter the passive water treatment system and the mine
is required to monitor for oil and grease as part of its Colorado Discharge Permit System industrial
discharge permit C00000003.
Regards,
Todd Jesse
Environmental Specialist
2 1 P a g e
