TR-34 to Permit M-1977-342
Environmental Protection Plan
Effectiveness: Releases of this chemical would be directed to the tailing delivery line.
Monitoring: Chemical storage containers are routinely inspected in accordance with the SPCC
Plan by Mill personnel to assess effectiveness and integrity of each EPF system. Maintenance
and/or updates to facilities, systems, equipment, or procedures are performed as needed to
be protective of the environment and to prevent releases.
Mill EPF 2.10 - Nokes Storage: Nokes is used in the mill circuit to selectively depress sulfides of
lead and other metals during the flotation process. Pre-mixed liquid Nokes reagent is stored in
a 21,800 gallon tank within the Mill building.
Effectiveness: Releases of this chemical would be contained directly by the Mill sump system.
The Mill sump also contains a high-level alarm to provide warning in the event of a large release.
Mill EPF 2.11—Hydrated Lime Storage: Hydrated lime will be used at the Mill WTP to precipitate
metals. Lime will be stored in an approximate 50 ton silo on the south side of the WTP building
and fed to a 250 gallon tank inside the WTP for mixing.
Effectiveness: Hydrated lime is non-viscous and is easily contained and cleaned-up. The area
immediately surrounding the WTP will be asphalt paved. The improved area will be graded to
route any spills to perimeter stormwater collection swales which, in turn, will convey drainage
to the Bear Paw Drainage Pipeline inlet. The Bear Paw pipeline conveys these flows to the TSF.
Any spills inside the Mill WTP will be contained by a sealed concrete floor sloped to a central
trench drain system that flows to sumps that will be collected and recycled back through the
system.
Monitoring: Chemical storage containers will be routinely inspected in accordance with the
SPCC by Mill personnel to assess effectiveness and integrity of each EPF system. The tanks are
generally equipped with level detectors and local alarms that warn of high tank levels.
Maintenance and/or updates to facilities, systems, equipment, or procedures are performed
as needed to be protective of the environment and to prevent releases.
Mill EPF 2.12 — DAF-10 Flocculent Storage: DAF-10 Flocculent will be used at the Mill WTP to
improve settling of sludge in the clarifier. Bags of flocculent will be stored on a pallet in the Mill
WTP building. The raw, dry flocculent is mixed with water in a 100 gallon mixing tank, then
transferred to a 140 gallon dosing tank prior to being added into the treatment process.
Effectiveness: The flocculent mixing tank and storage tank are contained within one system as
an over/under tank system and will sit within a secondary containment within the WTP
building. The Mill WTP will provide tertiary containment and will be constructed with a sealed
concrete floor sloped to a central trench drain system that flows to sumps such that all spills
will be collected within this system and recycled to the HDS reactor tanks.
Climax Molybdenum Company August,2021
Henderson Operations Page 28 of 45
