Due to the small acreage and high availability of undisturbed habitat near the
proposed site, impacts of the gravel pit, as proposed, may be characterized as minimal.
CPW's main concern with this project is the reclamation of the pit once the mining is
complete. There is great potential the reclamation plan could enhance the current habitat
for many species of wildlife like Scaled Quail. CPW recommends reseeding the area using a
weed free seed mix consistent with surrounding vegetation. The Natural Resource
Conservation Service and CPW can help to come up with a mix of grasses, forbs, and shrubs
consistent with the area and beneficial to wildlife to reclaim the site.
All disturbed soils should be monitored for noxious weeds and there should be a
plan in place for noxious weed control. There are many ways to which remove the
noxious weeds including mechanical and chemical methods.
We appreciate the opportunity to comment on this proposal.
