J&6COLORADO
'. Parks and Wildlife
Department of Natural Resources
Lamar Service Center
2500 South Main Street
Lamar, CO 81052
P 719.336.6600 1 F 719.336.6623
1/24/2018
J Et P Trucking
25525 County Road EE
Springfield, CO
81073
Re: J Et P Trucking Caliche Pit
Dear Jeff and PJ Chenoweth,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the proposed JEt P Trucking Caliche
Gravel Pit located at Section 33, Township 30 South, Range 45 West.
The mission of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is to perpetuate the wildlife
resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable
outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to
serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources. Our goal in responding to land use
proposals such as this is to provide complete, consistent, and timely information to all
entities who request comment on matters within our statutory authority.
District Wildlife Manager Brian Marsh recently visited the site on January 5, 2018. The
majority of this currently undeveloped land comprised of short grass prairie and bare ground.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife would expect to find a variety of Wildlife in this area including
Horned Larks, Scaled Quail, Western Meadowlarks, Red Tailed Hawks, Swainson's Hawks,
coyotes, mule deer, red fox, bull snakes, prairie rattlesnakes, coachwhips, kangaroo rats,
pocket gophers, and deer mice.
This area is not part of any significant migration route or corridor for wildlife. There
may be occasional passerine birds migrating through the area in the spring and fall but the
expected impacts to wildlife will be minimal. There are no raptor nests in or near the
proposed site.
This site is in the CHAT 4 (Crucial Habitat Assessment Too[) area of the lesser prairie
chicken. This chat level is considered modeled non-habitat for lesser prairie chickens and
they are not likely to be found at this location at any time during the year.
It is very unlikely that any state or federally listed threatened or endangers species
are present at this site. The US Fish and Wildlife Service should be consulted if there are any
federally listed Threatened or Endangered species that might be at the site.
Bob D.Broscheid,Director,Colorado Parks and Wildlife•Parks and Wildlife Commission:Robert W.Bray•Marie Haskett•Carrie Besnette Hauser
John Howard,Chair•Marvin McDaniel•Dale Pizei•Jim Spehar•James Vigil,Secretary•Dean Wingfield• Michelle Zimmerman,Vice-Chair•Alex Zipp
