Design Report
Goose Haven Reservoir Cell 2A
May 14, 2021
5 HYDROLOGY
Section 6 of the Project Breach Inundation Mapping Report discusses of the inflow hydrology
parameters and modeling. Section 7 of the Project Breach Inundation Mapping Report describes
the hydrologic hazard evaluation and concludes that a Low Hydrologic Hazard classification is
appropriate.
6 HYDRAULICS
Section 2.3 of the Project Breach Inundation Mapping Report discusses the primary outlet for Cell
2A. Additionally, an overflow rating curve and a primary outlet capacity curve are provided on
sheet HS-64 of the Project Construction Drawings.
7 GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN
Geotechnical design considerations are discussed in the Project Geotechnical Design Report,
The Project Geotechnical Design Report includes:
• A discussion of the geology and subsurface conditions
• Embankment foundation considerations
• Seepage analysis of the proposed embankment
• Slope stability analyses of the proposed embankment
• Filter compatibility design for the embankment chimney, blanket, and toe drains, and the
outlet pipe filter diaphragm.
• Discussion and analysis for the embankment camber design
• Embankment slope protection design
• Dam freeboard analysis
• Recommendations for trenchless construction for the outlet pipe
8 STRUCTURAL DESIGN
The basis of design for the transfer box structures is described on the first page of the Transfer
Box Structural Engineering Calculations.
9 INSTRUMENTATION PLAN
Instruments will be used to monitor the performance of the dam over time. In accordance with the
Rules and Regulations, Low Hazard dams are required to have seepage measurement devices
and a gage rod. Specification Section 31 23 20 contains requirements for the seepage
measurement and the gage rod.
Seepage will be measured at the Flow Measurement Structure shown on sheet C-13 of the Project
Construction Drawings. Sheet C-13 shows two toe drain outlets; one outlet will connect to the
eastern embankment toe drain and the second outlet will connect to the western and northern
BRIERLEY
ASSOCIATES
Creating Space Underground
