Ms.Mindy Sickels represented the
operator and accompanied the inspection.
The weather was hot and hazy. The southwest Colorado region has been experiencing and "exceptional drought"
this spring and summer according to the U.S.weather service.. Areas that do not receive additional irrigation
water show significant vegetation stunting.
The CC ditch was damaged upgradient of the Nucla valley in June. Repairs were implented.,but the CC ditch
water was interupted for 10 days in June. The CC ditch was restored and irrigation had been resumed prior to the
inspection.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS—Rule 5.02.4(1):
Mine records were verified at the mine office. Records were intact and complete.
FISH and WILDLIFE—Rule 4.18:
A Great Blue Heron was flushed up from Pond 13. We also saw a small animal run into the cattails at
pond 13 when we approached the pond. It may have been a muskrat,or Mindy said they had seen river otters in
the area previously. We were unable to get an 11D on the animal.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
SP2: The operator has implemented armoring of the inlet to SP2 where tail-water form the upgradient
irrigated pastures drain to SP2. This installation looks good and in accordance with the approved plans. The
operator seeded SP2 after completion of this stock pond,but with the ongoing drought,vegetation has yet to
establish. This area will need to continue to be monitored as the area receives precipitation to see if adequate
cover is able to become established.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 7
