Far north end of the pit July 2 , 2021
., t •. tc+a.M7,•' `,w ♦vY•., - " :'" _ r+ <, }J"". xibl" , U tt.:: , :.'-„,
I
f 77r
A x
4,
8i '
1
The north end of the pit is another area that requires a good deal of modification. Eventually, the drainage outlet from the entire pit will
be in the center of the highwall and at the lowest point of the pit edge. Rather than a deep cut, material mostly from the rough area to
the left of the low point will be used to fill in the basin and create an outlet that will be only a little bit lower than the ground on the other
side of the highwall. Thus, there will be a shallow, low grade cut in the edge of the pit that connects the pit to the actual drainage outlet
where it meets the undisturbed land a short ways beyond the low point of the current wall. This will allow for a smooth drainage of the
pit to a drainageway a short distance to the north that originally received water from this area prior to mining. A small and shallow
catchment/sediment basin will be constructed on this side of the outlet to capture sediment before it gets carried into the final
drainageway. This can eventually become a small filtering wetland at the outlet. In this way, the drainage course from the south to the
north of the pit will be very gradual so as to avoid higher velocity, erosive flows. It is possible that willow cuttings will be placed in and
beside the channel to create a shrub lined drainageway similar to other drainages in the area. Minimal rip rap will be used as such
large rocks are not characteristic of this landscape.
