Pit expansion for Section 16,T 22S, R72W,61h PM, about V2 a <br /> mile north of Silvercliffe,and Section 3,T 23S,R 72W,6tb PM, about four miles SSW of <br /> Silvercliffe <br /> Dear Mr. Oswald: <br /> Recently Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a request for written comments concerning a <br /> proposed gravel pit expansion permit application in Custer County. The permit is requested by <br /> Colorado Quarries Inc. <br /> A Colorado Parks and Wildlife representative was able to review and do a site visit. The first <br /> proposed site is about one 1/2 mile north of Hwy 96 and the town of Silver Cliff. Wildlife species <br /> that may be commonly found on the site and surrounding areas are mule deer,pronghorn,western <br /> rattle snake, bull snake, and various bird species. There were no Gunnison prairie dogs found on <br /> the site or other threatened or endangered species. The area can best be categorized as high <br /> elevation upland range consisting of both cool and warm season native grasses predominantly blue <br /> gramma. There are also several native shrub species present such as currant, winter fat, and <br /> mountain mahogany. <br /> The second site is about 4 miles SSW of Silvercliffe. Wildlife species that may be commonly <br /> found on the site and surrounding areas are mule deer,pronghorn,western rattle snake,bull snake, <br /> and various bird species. Gunnison prairie dogs may be found on the site as well as Golden <br /> Eagles. There were no other threatened or endangered species found in the area. The area can <br /> best be categorized as high elevation upland range consisting of both cool and warm season native <br /> grasses predominantly blue gramma.
