Pit Benches
The pit benches, being roughly level, can be revegetated. Overburden will be placed on the pit benches,
at a depth of approximately one foot (12 inches). Topsoil will be placed at a depth of at least 6 inches on
top of the overburden on the benches. Broadcast seeding and dragging will follow topsoiling.
The entire site will be monitored for erosion and sedimentation, especially on disturbed areas being
reclaimed. Any problem areas will be addressed in a timely manner.
Revep,etation
Revegetation seeding will be carried out on all disturbed surfaces, with the exception of some roadways
and exposed obsidian in the quarry pit. Mulch will be spread after seeding, and fertilizer will be applied
as needed after seed germination.
Seed Mix: Seed Name Variety Pounds of PLS/Ac
Western wheatgrass Arriba 9.6
Arizona fescue Redondo 0.9
Little bluestem Pastura 1.4
Total pounds PLS/Ac 11.9
The seeding rates above are for drill seeding; the rates should be doubled for broadcast seeding. Drill
seeding will be done on a seedbed that was prepared by ripping all deep compaction and lightly tilling
the surface topsoil layer. Drilling will place the seed %to% inch deep. If broadcast seeding is used, light
raking or dragging will follow broadcasting to incorporate the seed in the soil.
Mulch will be spread over seeded areas at the rate of 1000 to 2000 pounds/acre (dry weight). Straw is
recommended since it will not attract grazing animals prior to seed germination and establishment. It
will be crimped to keep it in place.
Fertilizer will be applied, as needed, after seed germination so it will be available to seeded species and
not to weeds. Application rates should be 40 pounds actual nitrogen and 40 pounds actual phosphate
per acre.
Areas which fail to become revegetated will be addressed by reseeding and/or other practices
considered to be necessary.
Noxious weeds will be monitored and controlled during reclamation, by following the same weed control
plan currently in place for the permit.
Structures and Equipment
All mining-related buildings, tanks, and equipment will be removed from the permit area. The disturbed
footprint of these features will be reclaimed (as needed by ripping, topsoiling, seeding).
Earthen stormwater control structures (berms, dips, culverts, etc.)will remain as permanent features.
Conclusion of Mining
At the conclusion of the operations, all areas and features of the site will be fully reclaimed. This means
the quarry will have stable, benched highwalls; slopes will be topsoiled and revegetated (excluding in-
quarry surfaces with exposed obsidian); earthen stormwater controls will remain as permanent
