3. Surface Hydrology
Prior to mining, the permit area has a shallow slope to the northwest. Pre-mining topography is
shown on Map E-1. All of the runoff on the undisturbed site runs to the northwest generally
parallel to State Highway 141 and the San Miguel River. The current river elevation is
approximately 450 feet lower than the lowest area within the active mine site. Surface drainage
features in the vicinity of the permit area are dry.
Stormwater will be kept from entering the site from the east by the shallow ditches and<3-foot-
tall berms that surround the site following the perimeter. Stormwater that occurs on site will
remain on site by perimeter berms and ditches; however, the porous surface of the site will allow
for all stormwater to infiltrate the site and pit floor within 72 hours.
No water wells are shown within 600' of the Weimer Ranches#4 Mine 2.No groundwater or
aquifers are expected to be encountered during operations. The operation is not expected to
directly affect surface nor groundwater systems, because there is no near-surface groundwater
table and very little surface water run-off. The sparse surface precipitation is for the most part
absorbed into the surface soils. There are no nearby naturally occurring nor man-made streams,
springs, wells, seeps, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, nor ditches, nor other water resources.
Groundwater is expected to be>-30 feet below the lowest point of the active mining area. As the
depth of mining is—15 feet, groundwater is not expected to be encountered during any Stage or
stage of mining. In the event that groundwater is encountered, excavation will be halted and the
area will be backfilled with at least two feet of site excavated material. No mining will occur
beyond the depth where groundwater is encountered.
4. Vegetation
Vegetation on site is typical sparse rangeland shrubs and grasses for this area. Common plant
species on site include: big sage brush, broom snakeweed, ephedra, yucca, senecio, prickly pear,
Z https://gis.colorado.gov/dnrviewer/Index.html?viewer=dwrwelipermit
Weimer Ranches #4 Ort i—icW&"A., Wlm P.I.
June 2021 B-2
