March 18, 2021 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine LJW
King II Facility
at the King II facility, the sediment pond, its discharge ditch, the West Clear Water Ditch and internal ditches and
culverts leading to the sediment pond were inspected. The sediment pond shown in Photo Five was in good
condition and contained minimal standing water. The pond appeared stable at the time of the inspection, it's banks
and walls are well vegetated and it was not discharging during the inspection. The ditch leading away from the
sediment pond was observed and shown in Photo Six. All ditches and culvers that were inspected were clear from
obstructions and functioning as designed at the time of the inspection.
PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES — Rule 4.10 and 4.11
Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization; Placement:
At the King I facility the lower refuse pile was observed. Material was not actively being deposited on the
pile during the inspection. The lower Refuse Pile can be seen in Photos Seven and Eight. On site discussions with
the Operator Representative indicate that minor grading work needed to be conducted to improve the positive
drainage of the pile. The current configuration of the pile does exhibit positive drainage. The pile is being
compacted as it is being deposited, a small volume of material was present that had yet to be compacted. The
areas that have been compacted appear to be within the design specifications for the pile.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 7
