RECEIVED
Applegate FEB 0 8 2021
Group, 1...
QM310 Nl OF 1ZECLA1N,4"1ON
Water Resource Advisors for the West 1M1l NPj nAMD SAFETY
February 1, 2021
Mr. Daniel Cunningham
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: North Weld Gravel Pit,M-1976-018,Amendment 01, Adequacy Review Comments
Dear Daniel:
The purpose of this letter is to respond to the comments you provided in your December 11, 2020
Adequacy Review for the North Weld Gravel Pit 112c Construction Materials Amendment
Application, M-1976-018. The responses are formatted to match the order of the comments
received.
General Questions
1. Exhibit B and C maps updated to include the name of the applicant and signed and
stamped by the PE who prepared the maps are attached.
2. C&H Solutions is in the process of preparing and submitting a succession of operator
application for the North Weld Gravel Pit.
Rule 6.4.3 Exhibit C—Maps
3. Exhibit C maps updated with a buffer zone of 200 feet along the boundary of the mining
site are attached.
4. The mining site boundaries are shown on the Exhibit C maps. Topsoil and Overburden will
be stored around these mining site boundaries and will be placed back during the
reclamation phase.
Rule 6.4.4 Exhibit D—Mining Plans
5. The Pierce Lateral is unlined and seepage from the ditch already occurs. Mining adjacent
to the Pierce Lateral (at a distance of at least 50 feet away) is not expected to cause an
increase in the existing seepage rate. Also, as mentioned in the application, whenever
groundwater is encountered during mining, including adjacent to the Pierce Lateral, mining
will cease and the floor will be backfilled to at least 2 feet above the prevailing water table.
Therefore, seepage is not expected to be an issue for the mine.
6. At any given time, the C&H Solutions is planning on having no more than 125 acres open
for mining or under reclamation.
www.applegategroup.com Denver • Glenwood Springs • Hotchkiss (303)452-6611
