Phase 3
Phase three has 2 project areas.
1)Ridgetop Project Area:
No changes will be made to the size and scope of this project area. This is now an underground
operation.
To ensure public safety and to protect reclaimed areas, warning signs will be posted throughout the
Project Area. The New Portal constructed in Phase 2 utilizes a steel gate to protect the portal to the
adit. This grate will always remain locked unless there is a MSHA certified employee present. Only
MSHA certified staff will have a key and are the only staff allowed to work in the project area. Miners
Mall will dismantle warning signs upon completion of the Project and successful reclamation. A night
watchman may be employed during critical periods of Phase 3, when key mineral resources are
exposed. Trail/game cameras will be emplaced to maintain security at the mine and increase ability to
identify trespassers/thieves/poachers. In addition, wildlife is known to live in the area, and sightings of
animals will be logged and reported quarterly to the BLM, DRMS, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the
Fish and Wildlife Service as required.
The Humming Bird Mine is one of several well-known historic mines in this part of Unaweep Canyon and
has been used as a mineral collection locality for decades. The location is very popular and is described
in numerous "rockhound" publications and on websites. Mineral trespass, mineral poaching, and
removal/destruction of claim markers has already occurred in numerous instances over the past five
years. Thus, occupancy for security and safety reasons is justified for emplacement of fencing, signage,
cameras, and potentially overnight security personnel.
21 Connector Project/free_
This is in dire need of reclamation and stabilization, as the debris from previous generations of mining
and disturbance has left an unstable area directly above the Connector portal, which has a bat grate on
it. Said debris has mostly sealed this portal. It is our intent to remove the unstable area to prevent any
further debris from falling into the entrance of the Connector portal, by doing the following:
a) We intend to sort it and stack it to the side(and not above)the existing portal in in tier-like
fashi-_-,(usong existing bould-ers and 1wdscaWr to-stabilize and prevent erosion. By close
examination of this area, there appears to be 12 feet of previous mine tailings sitting on the
upper part of this section. If this can be moved to the side, I believe it will blend into the other
previously disturbed area to the west.
b)The 200 foot line from CO-141 comes to within 16 feet of the Connector portal. It is also our
intent to remove the blockage from the portal, to above mentioned line to allow safe access to
the portal.
c)The Connector Portal, which is fitted with a non-removeable bat grate. The falling debris
blocks this portal from being used by any bats. It is our intent to modify the bat grate at our
