§2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES -
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS.
2.05.6 Mitigation of Surface Coal Mining Operation Impacts. (Cont'd.)
(2) (a) (i) (COnt'd.)
In light winters, this will not be necessary and
the authorized officer will grant permission to
work after consultation with the DOW. This
limitation on activity will minimize disturbance
of big game.
Activities other than on the mine site itself and
major access roads will be limited to the period
from sunrise to sunset between December 1 and
April 15 except for emergency situations. This
limitation will minimize the disturbance of
concentrations of deer and elk. Activity may be
authorized after consultation with DOW if animals
are concentrated.
Big game habitat will be temporarily removed from
wildlife utilization while the Bowie No. 1 Mine -
West Mine site is operational. To mitigate the
loss of this habitat, the operator may conduct
wildlife habitat improvement of the area. The
methods and sites for treatment would be
determined in consultation with the Bureau of
Land Management and Colorado Division of Wild-
life.
The design and construction of the Bowie No. 1
Mine electric power lines and other transmission
facilities used for, or incidental to, the
underground mining activities on the permit area
are in accordance with guidelines set forth in
"Environmental Criteria for Electric Transmission
System". Figure 2.05-8 in the Wildlife Appendix
in Volume 9A, is the pole configuration used to
protect eagles and other large birds.
No ponds containing hazardous concentrations of
toxic-forming materials are in the area. Fences
have also been constructed around the ventilation
shafts to exclude wildlife from these areas.
Revised 12/26/89
Revised 10/12/86
Revised 10/01/87
/~12-Io8 Revised 9/21/01
iiPPkovE~ g 8
G/z 5/oY
