Environment, Inc. Page 2
Summit Brick and Tile Company Native/Pierre Mine
Adequacy Response 01 December 10, 2020
4. Please clearly depict on the Mining Plan Map the general area where topsoil stockpiles will be
located during the mining of one of the 10 acre parcels.
Temporary growth medium piles have been added to the Mining Plan Map. We expect
them to move as mining progresses across the site since reclamation will be running
concurrent with the mining.
EXHIBIT D—Mining Plan (Rule 6.4.4):
5. If topsoil stockpiles are exposed for longer than 120 days the Division requests the operator
commit to planting native species as cover crop for stabilization, or utilize the final reclamation
seed mix to help establish a beneficial seed bank for future reclamation success.
I have added a section addressing this suggestion to the Mining Plan text. The
species and mix shown in the Reclamation Plan text will be used. This will be
approximately 16.4 Ibs of the seed mix per acres of stockpile area.
6. Please clarify if processing will occur at the site, question#15 of the application indicates no
processing will occur. If processing will occur please update the application page and briefly
describe the processing in the Mining Plan.
No processing takes place at the site. We used the term processing to indicate the
area where the mined materials are stored and loaded into trucks until needed for
the brick plant. The material is then screened and blended at the brick plant and any
waste is hauled back for use in reclaiming the site.
7. Please describe the dimensions of the isolation/safety berm located along the alley or alternatively
show dimensions on a cross-sectional view on the Mining Plan Map.
The purpose of this berm is to prevent access to the mine and will remain when the
mine area is reclaimed. At the current time it is a rough berm approximately 10
feet tall and 30 feet wide with steep sides to discourage vehicles from entering the
mine area. It runs the entire 1050 foot length of the alley and has a covering of
voluntary vegetation, i.e. weeds, grass, and shrubs.
8. On page 6, second to last paragraph, there is a reference to a released reclaimed area, please
clarify that this area will be released in the future when it meets the appropriate standards.
This should have been described as reclaimed area ready for release. I have fixed
that paragraph and added the information you suggest to clarify the intent. I also
added "Ready for Release" to the Mining Plan Map legend. Summit Brick and Tile
Company understands that until the Division approves the completed reclamation
that no reclaimed area will be considered complete and released.
9. Please clarify what the maximum affected acreage and maximum disturbed acreage, at any
one time, will be for the mine.
