ERC West Farm Pit Expansion Project Site
Aquatic Resource Delineation Report
Photo 7. Overview facing north of Aquatic Resource A where it Photo 8.Overview facing south of Aquatic ResourceA where
can be diverted to the Arkansas River (boundary depicted by it can be diverted to the Arkansas River(boundary depicted
blue line). by blue line).
AQUATIC RESOURCE B (7.49 ACRES)
Aquatic Resource B is comprised of a PEM1A wetland habitat situated in the north-central portion of the survey
area. Hydrology within Aquatic Resource B appears to be solely supported by seepage from three separate holding
ponds north of the overall mine permit boundary. Surface water was observed in Aquatic Resource B at the time
of the delineation as stagnant, standing water. As described in Section 4.3,Aquatic Resource B eventually dissipates
within the north central portions of the survey area (See Figure 3) and is completely surrounded by uplands.
The boundary of Aquatic Resource B was delineated based on the presences of hydric soils, dominance of
hydrophytic vegetation combined with indicators of hydrology.
The vegetation community within Aquatic Resource B is dominated by species such as black willow, eastern
cottonwood, broadleaf cattail (Typha lotifolia), willow baccharis (Baccharis salicino), curly dock (Rumex crispus),
and careless weed (Amaranthus palmeri). The dominant species within the wetland area consists of hydrophytic
species (FAC-FACW).
Soils within Aquatic Resource B are generally loamy in texture, meeting criteria for hydric soil indicators F3
(Depleted Matrix). At the time of the delineation, primary wetland hydrology indicators Al (Surface Water), and
A3 (Saturation) was observed within Aquatic Resource B. Additionally, secondary hydrology indicators included:
D2 (Geomorphic Position). Aquatic Resource B meets the criteria for a wetland based on the presence of
hydrophytic vegetation, hydric soils, and wetland hydrology.
Aquatic Resource B comprises a total of 7.49 acres within the survey area (Appendix A). Refer to Photos 7-12
below for characteristics within Aquatic Resource B.
8
