The existing sediment pond at the southern border of the original permit area will be removed after
mining and reclamation activities. The pond currently in use for the past forty years of operation has
rarely over-filled and released water via the weir device. Considering that disturbed lands will be
reclaimed incrementally as mining progresses in planned phases, no expansion of sediment pond
structures is planned at this time.
There are no waste dumps, underground mine openings,or other sediment control structures on site or
planned for the site. Surface flow will be directed towards the existing sediment pond area via shallow
ditches flanking access roads to the pit area. These ditches will be minimally cut to near access road
elevation to direct surface run-off towards the sediment pond area. After re-vegetation has shown to
be successful, all access roads into the proposed additional mining acreage will be ripped, seeded and
mulched and all drainage ditches to control run-off along the temporary access road will be removed
prior to seeding.
