have resulted in a stable landform in compliance with the approved conditions in the CDRM
Permit No. C-1981-044.
A. Summary of Reclamation and Management History
The following is a brief summary of the Phase I activities that have been completed. All
buildings within the area associated with this bond release request have been demolished and
debris removed from the area. Grading commenced at the No. 5 Portal, No. 9 portal and
facilities area and shop area to achieve final landform. The final grading was accomplished using
a grader which left the surface in a roughened condition to minimize topsoil slippage. Topsoil
was redistributed over the areas and scrapers, front end loaders, and dump trucks were used to
haul and spread the topsoil on the area. Final grading of the topsoil was accomplished with
graders. Care was taken to keep all unnecessary vehicles off the topsoil once it was spread over
the area. No amendments were necessary after topsoil redistribution to maintain topsoil fertility.
During the October 2019 CDRMS inspection, mean topsoil depth from sampling locations was
noted as 9.3 inches (See Attachment D Topsoil Depth Analysis).
Mine water treatment Ponds 5-P5, 5-P6 and 5-P7 and the wastewater treatment pond were
backfilled and regraded all other ponds have been left in place for sediment control. Post mine
drainage channels were designed and constructed to also control run off and erosion. All of
these channels were designed and constructed to control, at least the 10-year, 24-hour storm
event. These post mine drainage channels all ultimately flow into sediment ponds to ensure that
water quality leaving the permit area is within regulatory specified limits.
Reclamation management has been a continuing effort that includes:
Rill and Gully Maintenance. Spring rill and gully surveys were conducted to identify
erosional features resulting from spring snowmelt and runoff. The survey results were
portrayed through reports and submitted to the Division, which have been followed up
by on-the-ground maintenance and repairs to rectify identified areas identified in the
survey and inspections. No major instances of instability have been identified in the areas
requested for bond release.
5
