Phase Three consists of 1 project area.
4) Connector Project Area—At the present time, no excavation is planned in this area. It is in dire need
of stabilization, as the debris from previous generations of mining and disturbance has left an unstable
area directly above the Midway portal, which has a bat grate on it. Said debris has mostly sealed this
portal. It is our intent to remove the unstable area between the Ridgetop and Midway Project Areas
(hence this called the Connector Project)to prevent any further debris from falling into the entrance of
the Midway portal. Post reclamation use is to allow for the portal to be used by bats, as it will be a safe
environment.
This may be needed as part of the Ridgetop Project Area. Preexisting debris in this zone constantly falls
and blocks the preexisting Midway Portal, which is fitted with non-a removeable bat grate. The falling
debris blocks this portal from being used by any bats. It is our intent(if necessary, for safety and
stability)to remove the debris from above this portal. We intend to sort it and stack it to the side (and
not above)the existing portal in in tier-like fashion (using existing boulders and landscape)to stabilize
and prevent erosion. The area directly above the portal will then be utilized by the Ridgetop Project
Area,or stabilized to prevent future debris from falling down in the entrance of the Midway portal
The entrance of the portal will be cleared, sorted, and stacked with material in the Midway Project Area.
This Phase will happen AFTER the Midway Project is complete, but because of overlap with time and
reclaimation, we intend to add this area to hold for use as needed during operations.
Connector Project Area is the steepest project area. I am not going to lie, reclamation will be tough!
But it is needed if the BLM and/or DRMS wishes the Midway portal to remain open! I feel that moving
the debris to the west will stop further UUD.
The Area of Disturbance for this project is 0.01 acres, which will be split into working/stabilized area
and soil storage. We have not intent of replacing soil over stabilized area above the port other than
some topsoil for seeds as needed.
