Page 9
4.8 Environmental Protection Measures
In addition to the plans discussed above, the following activities have been completed and the
following environmental protection measures will be implemented as part of the Project.
Environmental Protection Measures
In addition to the plans discussed above, the following activities have been completed and the
following environmental protection measures will be implemented as part of the Project.
Baseline Studies
- Miners Mall has self-conducted a botanical survey of the Project and surrounding area from
January 2015 to December 2017,with the focus on sensitive plant and vegetation species. Our
findings show that the only concern was the Colorado Hookless Cactus(Sclerocactus glaucus),
which is listed as"threatened" by the US Fish and Wildlife Department(USFWS). It is found
within the Claim and surrounding area, but not within the Active Mining Area or the Route of
Travel. There is a significant amount of early-stage cryptobiotic soil within the claim, but none
within the Active Mining Area. Special concern for this soil has been taken to keep the Route of
Travel away from this type of soil.
- The BLM conducted a cultural inventory in June 2017 for the Notice of Intent processing. No
sites of significant cultural interest were found within the claim or Project area. There is a
prehistoric rock art site immediately outside the former claim boundaries. In April 2017,the
claim was reduced in size in order to give this site a wider berth.
- During the bonding process with the DRMS, Miners Mall was required to inform of its intent to
mine the Project Area to the Colorado Office of Archaeology& Historic Preservation. That
notification occurred in July 2020 during the Reclamation Review Process, and no objection was
filed with the DRMS.
- Current operation and Area of Disturbance has undergone a NEPA review during initial
Operational Plan approval.
