0010
General Shale
Building The American Dream®
Clay Stockpile Pad Areas
When mining is complete the clay stockpile pad areas will be covered with a dust suppressant
such as Coherex, magnesium chloride, or similar material. If General Shale determines dust
suppressants are not cost effective, grog or similar gravel material will be laid down on the
stockpile pad area floor In stockpile areas where the pad areas are starting to grow grass
tackifier will be utilized to minimize dust until a good stand of grass is established.
Dust Abatement Plan During Periods of Mining Inactivity
Access Road
The recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) will be monitored for dust. If areas become dusty or are
missing, then additional RAP will be added to the access road.
Vehicle speeds will be posted at 15 mph.
Stockpiles
Topsoil and overburden-interburden stockpile will be monitored for weeds and the amount of
grass growing on the stockpile(s). Stockpile(s) will be maintained by mowing, spraying for
weeds, overseeding, fertilizing, blanketing, applying tackifier etc. until a good stand of grass is
established.
Clay stockpiles will be monitored for dust. If it is found the surface crusting is not effective for
wind erosion a tackifier will be applied to the clay stockpile.
Clay Stockpile Areas
As the clay stockpiles are consumed, the exposed stockpile pad area floor of the clay stockpile
pad areas with be covered with a dust suppressant such as Coherex, magnesium chloride, or
similar material. If General Shale determines dust suppressants are not cost effective, grog or
similar gravel material will be laid down on the newly exposed areas of the stockpile pad area
floor. It should be noted that the clays stockpile pad area floor within 50 feet of the clay
stockpile face will not be treated because this is the working area of the stockpile and surface
treatments for dust will be ineffective in these areas.
General Shale, 1845 West Dartmouth Avenue, Denver Colorado 80110 Page 5 of 5
T: 1-800-477-9002 1 F: 1-303-781-1818 1 www.generalshale.com
