otherwise stated, all cover values reported below are for all-hit data. Percentages are rounded to one
decimal place to facilitate discussion of the results.
2016 Phase 11 BRB-2a
(Photographs 1 through 27)
COVER
(Table A-1)
Cover data were collected at 27 samples in the BRB-2a. Native perennial cool season grasses were the
dominant lifeform with 22.4 percent cover. Of which, Western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii, 8.6
percent), basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus, 5.2 percent), bottle brush squirrel tail (Elymus elymoides, 2.4
percent), and Agassiz bluegrass (Poa pratensis ssp. agassizensis, 2.0 percent)were the dominant
species. Introduced perennial cool season grasses and introduced perennial forbs contributed 9.7 and
9.6 percent, respectively. Smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis, 4.5 percent), and Timothy (Phleum
pretense, 2.3 percent)were the dominant contributing species to introduced perennial cool season
grasses. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa, 9.0 percent) was the dominant contributing species to introduced
perennial forbs. Introduced annual and biennial forbs contributed 7.4 percent with twolobe speedwell
(Pocilla biloba, 3.8 percent) as the dominant species contributing to this total. Native shrubs contributed
3.8 percent to cover, with big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentate, 3.6 percent) as the dominant contributing
species. Native annual and biennial forbs, native perennial forbs, introduced annual grasses, and
bryophytes contributed 1.7, 1.6, 1.1, and 0.1 percent to cover, respectively.
Also observed in the area were small amounts of the B-List noxious weeds: Canada thistle (Cirsium
arvense, 0.4 percent), hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale, 0.2 percent cover), and whitetop
(Cardaria drabs, 0.2 percent). Bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare) and dalmatian toadflax (Linaria genistifolia
ssp. dalmatica)were also present. The C-List species Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum, 0.1 percent) and
bulbous bluegrass (Poa bulboua) were also present in the BRB-2a in 2016.
Total average all-hit vegetation cover was 61.4 percent. Allowable all-hit herbaceous cover was 52.7
percent (Table B-1). Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 0.4, 32.9, 10.5, and 2.4
percent, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 24.4 species per 100 m2.
11
