Total cumulative#of native species*Z avg. reference area native species density(#species/100
M 2)
*In the cumulative presence data from 2 m x 50 m samples associated with the collection of a statistically
adequate sample of the reclaimed area. Alfalfa and/or cicer milkvetch are included, since these have
often been included in seed mixes as nitrogen—fixers, due to the lack of suitable and available native
nitrogen-fixers.
If the total cumulative number of native species in the reclamation sampling exceeds the average number
of native species per 100 m2 in the weighted average of the reference area sampling, then Test D is
passed.
Climatic Data
Seneca Property (SPL) has historically provided precipitation data for the Seneca II/PSCM (1982-1989)
and IIW Mines (1990-2010), however, data from the Yoast Mine is unavailable. Given the close proximity
of the three mines, the Seneca II and Seneca IIW mine data were also used at Yoast when available.
Precipitation data obtained from the NOAA administered Western Regional Climate Center(WRCC) for
the nearby town of Hayden, Colorado (Station 053867), were used during the most recent years (2011-
2016). Since the long-term average for the mine specific data exists for only 29 years, the long-term
average monthly precipitation data from Hayden (Station 053867)was used as an appropriate base for
comparison. Temperature data from the Hayden station was used as well.
RESULTS
Sample data from 2016 are presented in Tables A-1 through A-7. Sampling data for 2016 are
summarized in Appendix B. Data on cover are summarized in Table B-1. Data on species density by
lifeform are tabulated for sampled areas in Table B-2. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in
Table B-3. Statistical adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table B-4. The list of plant species observed
during 2016 (reclaimed and reference areas) is included in Appendix C. Seed mixes used in the
reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix D. Photographs of representative locations
within the reclaimed and reference areas sampled during the 2016 evaluation are included in Appendix E.
Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures B-1 a through B-8 of this report.
In the plant cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present"were not"hit" during point-intercept
sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect line.
