The images were downloaded electronically. Janet Binns of CDRMS reviewed the images. This
report is a result of the review of the aerial images.
The area surrounding the mine appears very dry. The Nucla area utilizes irrigation for much of the crop
production. Areas receiving irrigation water were green, while dryland areas were not.
BACKFILL and GRADING—Rule 4.14
Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour 4.14.2; Handling of Acid and Toxic
Materials 4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
The operator is in the process of regrading the remaining facilities area. Gravel has all been pushed up
into a pile just to the east of the access into the southern part of the mine. It appears that material has been spread
to bring the elevation up to plan, and topsoil is being spread adjacent to the southern extent of the Garvey field.
Equipment on site includes a small dozer and a front end loader.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE-Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The Garvey field is being irrigated and the vegetation on the field appears as a healthy green. Irrigation
tail-water drains primarily to the south from the irrigated field. Some gully formation was discernable at the
southern end of the field in the aerial photo. This tail water flows into Pond 1. There was one small pool of water
in Pond 1 at the east end. There is no evidence that any discharge would have occurred. It does not appear that TR
23 has been implemented yet. TR23 approved removal of the ditch liner in reach 6 of the East ditch.
Pond 2 was dry. Based upon vegetation patterns irrigation tail-water is able to flow overland to the ditch, then to
pond 2. No water is standing in the ditch, nor is there any pool of water in the pond. Vegetation is becoming
established on the Pond 2 inslopes. No problems were noted with pond 2 or the drainage system to Pond 2 based
upon review of the aerial photos.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 4
