MINING PLAN EXHIBIT C
6 .3 .3 - This is an open pit mine located approximately 4 . 3
miles southeast of Colorado City, Colorado on a private road.
From the Colorado City exit (HYW 165) on I-25 travel south
approximately 8 . 0 miles to the Apache City Exit (CR 660/670) .
Follow CR 670 northwest approximately 1 . 33 miles to a private
road (37052120 . 6111N, 104050138 . 47 % heading west . Follow the
dirt road west 2 . 5 miles to the mine entrance (37052146 . 53 "N,
104052156 . 361W) . Access to the mine will be via this existing
road that is owned by the landowners . It is currently 15 feet
wide and the location, next to the mine is shown on the map
exhibits supplied with this application. Part of the gravel will
be used to widen it to 25 feet, gravel the surface and improve
the road for all property owners adjacent to the road. Periodic
grading will be necessary to keep the road in its present condi-
tion and to make it passable . It will remain after mining is
complete as an existing road that provides access to adjoining
owners west of the mine, so it is not required to be included in
the permit .
The primary reason for this permit is to improve and main-
tain roads on the ranch owned by the Clennin family. Once the
roads have been improved, the material will by used for commer-
cial purposes . The anticipated life of this mine will be between
10 and 15 years depending on the amount of material in the mine,
the private road needs and the market demand.
The site is currently used as rangeland and consists of a
gravel terrace on a mesa above the low area east of the mine .
The usable material on this site, ranges from 25 to 35+ feet
deep. The soil covering the gravel averages 0 to 12 inches deep
over the material to be mined.
The material will be used to supply borrow, asphalt base,
road base and pit-run fill material . The land will remain
rangeland as mining progresses and once reclamation is complete
the area will be reseeded so it will have the same use . Ini-
tially, a slight grade into the mine will be created so surface
water runoff can be contained on the site until reclamation is
complete . All stormwater on the site will be directed towards
the mining face where it can soak in or be treated before re-
lease . Stormwater will not be retained on the site for more then
72 hours .
Prior to mining a section of the surface it will be stripped
of topsoil and placed around the mine setback or on the mine
floor for used in reclamation. As mining progresses the stripped
material may be placed directly on the seedbed, if it will not be
redisturbed.
Mining will start on the south side near where the road tops
out on the mesa . Initially a section of unmined area will be
left along the edge of the mesa until mining has established a
stripped area where processing and stock piling will take place
that is below the crest of the mesa . The plan is to then begin
to removed the outer edge of the mesa by pulling the material
into the area mined first until it daylights out that face . By
"day lighting" out the hill on the south side, an amphitheater
like basin will be created in the hillside when mining ends .
