a
REALtime Aquifer Services
• The west berm of the existing sediment retention ponds was significantly enlarged and
reinforced, particularly in the area that had been overtopped. The freeboard has been
increased. This is an interim measure pending construction of the proposed new ponds
described in the TR.
• Sediment that had been released beyond the western permit boundary was graded back onto
the mine, and the off-permit area was regraded and fully reclaimed to pre-release conditions.
• An area of upwelling groundwater within the existing Permit has been backfilled to
effectively isolate the shallow groundwater system from the surface.
• Excavation and construction of a sediment retention pond have been completed in the
southeast part of the mine to control the release of sediment into the central wetlands area,
using a concrete outlet structure and check dam.
We hope that this TR will satisfy the Board's Order and that Mr. Pyles can return to his important
work of supplying the Teller County community with aggregate. Mr. Pyles is anxious to undertake
these significant improvements and will await your response.
