SUNDAY MINE COMPLEX-HYDROGEOLOGIC REPORT
Well MW-SUN2 is permitted by the DWR under permit number 287949. The well location is in
NE ' , NW' , Section 23, Township 44 North, Range 18 West, New Mexico Principal Meridian.
Drilling of the well borehole for well MW-SUN2 commenced on or about December 1, 2012 (i.e.,
reaming out of the pilot hole), and the well was completed on December 18, 2012 (well
development). Drilling and well completion was conducted by Reliance Drilling Company. The
well was completed at a depth of 1,205 ft. The screened interval (2-inch schedule 80 PVC) was
completed within the Top Rim Sandstone in accordance with the geophysical log and direction
by EFR; the interval was from 1,115 to 1,205 ft. A lockable steel surface casing was cemented
in place for the surface completion. Appendix E shows details of the well completion and Table
9-1 presents a summary of well construction information.
The well was developed by air lifting with the drill rig and followed by additional pumping with a
nitrogen piston pump. The total estimated volume purged was 506 gallons. Groundwater
recovery rates were slow.
9.1.3 MW-SUN3
The pilot hole for MW-SUN3 (ambient monitor well), located updip of the West Sunday
underground mine workings, was completed on September 20, 2012. The hole was completed
through the Top Rim Sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation, which is
the mining horizon at the SMC. The sandstone unit is approximately 80 ft thick (490 to 570 ft
from surface) and includes a few small mudstone and siltstone lenses. The hole deviated 40 ft
to the northeast and is approximately 150 ft from the mine workings at depth. The bedding in the
area is dipping 9° south-southwest toward Disappointment Valley. A pilot hole log is shown in
Appendix E.
Well MW-SUN3 was permitted by the DWR under permit number 287950. The well location is in
SW' , SW 14, Section 14, Township 44 North, Range 18 West, New Mexico Principal Meridian.
Drilling and well completion was conducted by D.A. Smith Drilling Company using air rotary
methods. Drilling of the well borehole for well MW-SUN3 commenced on May 7, 2013, and the
well was completed on May 11, 2013. To reduce affects from drilling fluids, the entire borehole
was drilled without injecting water or other drilling fluids. A small amount of water was
intercepted in the Brushy Basin Member of Morrison Formation at 170 ft from surface and
produced approximately one-quarter gallon per minute. The amount of returned water remained
steady at one-quarter gallon per minute to the bottom of the hole, 30 ft below the Top Rim
Sandstone, and added very little formation water during the three hours after drilling and during
Western Water& Land, Inc. 29
