MATERIALS CORPORATION
3.5 Areas where unsuitable materials are removed will be prepared for compaction to the
same specifications as general fill.
4.0 Disposition of the General Fill
4.1 Prior to fill being placed, a test pattern of placing fill and prescribed compaction
efforts will be performed and tested to determine the method specification to place
and compact general fill.
4.2 Fill of the slope is to provide reclamation stability and shall be landscaped to reclaim
the site.
5.0 Placing and Compacting General Fill
5.1 Each Layer of fill shall be placed in approximately 1-foot thick lifts unless approved
by the engineer, but never to exceed 3 foot maximum. Each layer shall be uniformly
compacted prior to the next lift being placed. (Thicker lifts may be required to fill
rocky rubble areas).
5.2 Compaction method specification as established by the test pattern shall be
completed with regard to the end product and the means and manner of control
testing.
5.3 Where differing materials are to be placed in general fill, efforts to mix the materials
in equal portions prior to compaction shall be made to ensure uniform distribution of
the materials in the compacted situation.
5.4 Water from the site source shall be added where needed by spraying from a water
truck or water wagon in a fashion to allow the moisture to be absorbed into the
materials prior to compaction. Site source for water will be the existing hydrant south
of the scale house. Water will be metered and purchased from the Colorado Springs
Utility.
5.5 Boulders and cobbles may be incorporated into the general fill by compaction efforts
other than the general prescription. Compactors shall be used to ensure the voids
and adjacent soils are compacted in avoid gaps in the fill.
5.6 General fill shall be compacted before the end of shift each day. No general fill shall
be left without compaction at the end of shift
5.7 Compaction Plans will ensure the fill will proceed from the outward edge of the slope
towards the existing quarry wall. As the fill approaches the rubble slide area, a work
zone 30 feet wide shall be maintained away from the existing wall. This area shall be
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4
D-11
