CnK - CONTINENTAL MATERIALS CORPORATION
Response: We request all options be allowed to be based on site conditions. Final slopes steeper than
3H:1V are difficult to seed across the slope. Therefore, such areas may need to be broadcast seed and
the seeding rate doubled. Benches, if safe, may be drill seeded. For bonding purposes, we recommend
the benches and slopes steeper than 3H:1V be broadcast seeded. Hydroseeding should not be
considered as part of the bond calculation but remains an option we may want to use if practical and
more efficient than other means.
c.Tree planting:The DRMS understands trees will be planted after grass seeding and watered initially to
saturate the roots(ref. p. E-5, Revegetation). The following information is necessary in evaluation the
reclamation bond:
Response: The watering is part of the "enhanced reclamation" and may be performed at CMC's option.
Anything included as Enhanced Reclamation is not part of the reclamation bond calculation, because it is
optional.
i. How will trees be protected from the proposed seeding method?
Response: As stated above, "...trees will be planted after(emphases added)grass seeding..." are
planted and established. If trees are planted after grasses and forbs are established, there should not be
a need to plant and or to replant grass and forb species in such a manner to injure shrubs and/or trees.
If for some reason, interseeding is needed, the areas would be broadcast seeded.
ii. What equipment is planned for watering the trees?
Response: Should CIVIC decide to water as part of the enhanced reclamation, light duty equipment(i.e.
quads) will be used to limit disturbances.Access will be maintained along benches, also to limit
disturbances. As stated above, the watering is optional, and the reclamation bond should be calculated
assuming that no watering occurs.
iii. How much water is required?
Response: The amount of water will depend on the precipitation that occurs; however, as stated above,
the watering is optional, and the reclamation bond should be calculated assuming that no watering
occurs.
iv. What is the source of water?
Response: Water will be obtained from a legal source located onsite. As stated above, the watering is
optional, and the reclamation bond should be calculated assuming that no watering occurs.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4, Response to Adequacy
February 7, 2020
11
