CONTINENTAL MATERIALS CORPORATION
ii.A means to indicate the design gradient of the three different ditch types at specific locations,
Response: Channel profiles of the cross-channel, north channel, and south channel have been included
in Exhibit G to present the ditch gradients. The profiles have been labelled so that the channel segments
and peak flow rates can be determined from the SEDCAD model and Table G-3.
iii. A means to indicate which design peak flow from the SEDCAD model is used for each reach of the
stormwater management system.
Response: The design flows are listed in Table G-3, and the watershed delineations are shown on
Exhibit G-1.The names of the watersheds are included in the SEDCAD model.
iv. Culverts identified in Exhibit G (reference p. G-3, second paragraph).
Response: There are no culverts associated with the reclamation drainage plan. The only culverts used
at the site are for the operation/reclamation period, and these will be removed as the site is reclaimed.
v. Location of the three French drains, noting elevations constructed after the approval of TR-18.
Response: The Waldo Canyon fire destroyed 248 homes in the Mountain Shadows subdivision near the
Pikeview Quarry, and as a service to the homeowners, CIVIC demolished and removed the foundations.
Concrete rubble from the house foundations was imported to the quarry. Ash and debris were disposed
of in the Colorado Springs Landfill, and rebar was recycled by Industrial Recycle. The concrete rubble
was broken into 12-inch pieces and used to construct three French drains as shown on Exhibit G-1. Each
drain was excavated to be 20 feet deep and 20 feet across. Elevations were approximately 7200 to 7210
and sloped to the east to allow drainage.
e. Water Capture Structure Details:The interception of runoff above the slide area is critical in
preventing stormwater from entering the slide area where it is likely to reduce stability. Please provide
detail drawings demonstrating how the upgradient runoff will be intercepted and conveyed to the
proposed diversion channels.
Response: Runoff from upland areas, particularly the three drainages west of the quarry, will be
intercepted by the cross-channel or south channel and routed north or south of the existing slide area.
The terraces divert any precipitation off the slide area to the north or south. As shown on the maps in
Exhibit C,the fill extends beyond the slide area, so water is routed off the slide and onto stable ground.
f. Record Drawings:As stormwater control is potentially critical to the success of this reclamation plan,
please commit to providing As-Constructed drawings within 60 days of the completion of all reclamation
channel construction.
Response: CIVIC will prepare As-Construction drawings of the reclamation plan as requested.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4, Response to Adequacy
February 7,2020
9
