CmcCONTINENTAL MATERIALS CORPORATION
Application
1. Applicant/operator company name. The DRMS is reviewing your response.Additional information
may be required.
Response: To clarify the applicant/operator name and to be consistent with the previous amendment,
the applicant name has been revised to be Continental Materials Corporation. The permit application
form and figures have been updated with the following information:
Continental Materials Corporation
440 South LaSalle, Suite 3100
Chicago, IL 60605-5020
Phone: 312-541-7200
6.4.3 EXHIBIT C-Pre-mining and Mining Plan Map(s)of Affected Lands
6. Exhibits C-1 and C-2 Involved Area: The response requires an update. Based on the DRMS December
5, 2019 site inspection and a subsequent meeting with Pikeview personnel in Denver on December 13,
2019,The DRMS understands additional area just north of the maintenance shop and within the permit
boundary is to be affected area. Rule 6.4.3(d) requires the total area involved in the operation be
identified. The area north of the maintenance shop needs to be included in the green lines outlining
various areas for which the Legend identifies as"Disturbance Area". Please resubmit C-1 and C-2 with
the new borrow area included in the "Disturbance Area". Please provide the disturbance acreage on the
re-submitted map(s).
Response: The reclamation surface has been revised so that all the material required to backfill and
reclaim the quarry comes from inside the existing permit/affected lands boundary. Castle will continue
to import fill material from offsite projects to supplement or replace the material planned to be
excavated from the site. The maps in Exhibit C have been updated to show the revised topography,
disturbance boundary, and to clarify that the permit boundary coincides with the affected lands
boundary. Exhibits D, E, F,G, and L have also been revised with these changes.
The increased borrow areas were selected so there is no impact on the geotechnical stability of the
backfilled quarry. The limestone ridge at the toe of the fill will remain to provide a buttress for the fill
slope.
6.4.4 EXHIBIT D—Mining Plan
10. Fill Monitoring, p. D-3:The response requires additional clarification. Conversations during the
December 5, 2019 site visit included three types of monitoring: visual, the existing prism system, and
imaging using drones. Only the visual and prism systems were discussed in your response. Furthermore,
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4, Response to Adequacy
January 7, 2020
