Simplifications were required to develop a
working water balance model. This model assumes that if there is any water shortage on site during any
time step, augmentation demands are met first (from offsite water sources), followed by any demand at
VLF2, then at VLF1, and finally any non-VLF water demands. If there is any water surplus at the end of a
time step, the excess solution (above minimum required volumes) is stored first in VLF2 Phase 1/2 until
that pond reaches its capacity, then in VLF2 Phase 3 until it is full, then in VLF1 PSSA 1, 2, 4, and 5,
respectively. These priorities are programmed into the model and cannot be edited by the user. Changing
these priorities would require reworking of the model. Results for the total stored water volume and the
remaining total capacity in all VI-Fs combined are provided under the"Other Stochastic Results"tab. From
this the user can quantify the total amount of excess storage available or the total amount of excess
solution over the full system. In practice, operators are expected to manage actual solution levels in the
9
