J-2
During the field investigation, vegetation data was collected by RETTEW at each of the sample points
as depicted on the aerial imagery base map provided in the RETTEW report(i.e., Appendix 1; more
specifically,Appendix A:Figure 2,thereof)and recorded on sample data forms(as further provided in
Appendix C,thereof).
Vegetation across the site is primarily composed of various grasses, prickly pear, and sand sagebrush.
With the exception of an area with a concentrated cluster of Russian olive trees (i.e., less than 5 acres
in total) near the extreme southeast corner of Section 12, trees are virtually absent within the Permit
Area and surrounding areas.
The majority of the Permit Area is comprised of grazed grasslands containing patches of sagebrush and
a significant amount of bare ground, varying from about 30 percent to as much as 70 percent across the
Permit Area.
Limited shrub cover is observed as being present, with coverage ranging from none to approximately
30 percent cover in more dense areas.
In general, grass and shrub cover ranges from about 1-inch to approximately 24-inches in height.
Notably, root depth at each sample point was approximately six inches deep.
The Permit Area is comprised of a relatively homogenous landscape, with the exception of the
aforementioned Ennis Draw feature. Vegetation within portions of this drainage, especially those areas
containing ponded water and saturated soils, was distinctly different from the surrounding upland areas,
as documented by sample points W 1 through W3, and as depicted on the aerial base map (Figure 2)
within Appendix 1.
A summary of the vegetation species identified at each sample point is provided in Table J-1:
Vegetation Species at Upland Sampling Points. Information obtained by a more focused examination
of the Ennis Draw feature is subsequently provided in Table J-2: Vegetation at Wetland Sampling
Points.
Additional information for each sample point can be found on the sample point data forms contained in
Appendix 1(more specifically,Appendix B,thereof).
Keenesburg No. 2 Mine_112 Reclamation Operation—November 22, 2019
